Harvesting

Although scallops can be harvested by hand diving, 99% of the commercial market are collected by dredging. In Britain scallops are a £35m per annum business.

Scallop dredgers lower chain nets that drag across the sea bed flicking up their catch into the nets ready to be lifted onto the boat.

Buying

Fresh and frozen Queenies are available from local supermarkets and outlets such as Moore's in Peel and Island Seafare in Port St. Mary. Moore's and Seafare also deliver from order placed online.

Cooking

Although there are a number of method's of cooking depending on taste, most prefer to lightly fry Queenies in olive oil mixed with garlic and herbs until lightly browned, a splash of wine is added for a few seconds before serving.
