Parish Walk

The Parish Walk is an annual 85 mile walk in which competitors visit the doorways or gates of churches in each of the island's 17 parishes. Starting and finishing in Douglas, the event is sponsored by Clerical Medical Insurance. The Walk
The walk starts at 8.00am on Saturday morning at the National Sports Centre track in Douglas and ends no later than 8.00am on Sunday. 1,598 entrants took part in 2008 with 122 completing the full 85 miles.
Competitors complete a full lap of the track then head out onto the paths and roads. The event is fully marshalled by volunteers with the Police assisting with traffic management in strategic locations.
The challenge is to reach as many parish churches as possible within ability and time guidelines, competitors set their own achievment levels.
Brief Guide to Rules
The event is open to individuals over the age of 18 on the day of the event who may raise sponsorship for taking part. The race complies with IAAF rules of race walking.
Entry cost for 2009 is £25.00 and entry forms must be completed and received by 12 noon on Saturday 2nd May 2009.
An individual's finishing point can be at any of the designated churches on the route up to the age restricted finish lines.
- 18 and over may take part as far as Peel (32.5miles)
- 21 and over may complete the full course (85 miles)
There are seperate classes for men and ladies as well as a combined overall result.
Each church has a recommended completion time, competitors may be asked to retire if they excede this guideline. The maximum time permitted to complete the race is 24 hours.

The 2009 Parish Walk begins at 8.00am on Saturday 20th June.
