If you have never used MediaWiki software before, take time to read the help pages or simply click Edit tags to view the simple code behind the page. Most pages are editable by any registered user (annonymous editing is disabled) however no changes are displayed until they are saved, so errors can easily be corrected or cancelled if required. Wiki code can appear daunting at first, but it is easy to pick up and you can soon by editing like a seasoned pro.
Writing Style
Unlike the well known version of the software Wikipedia which is written from an external/neutral perspective, ManxWiki is Isle of Man centric and therefore can written from an internal perspective where appropriate.
Example: Titles
- A page about the local postal service must be titled Isle of Man Post.
- A page about trams between Douglas and Ramsey must be titled Manx Electric Railway
Example: General text
- The Vikings arrived on the Isle of Man may be written as The Vikings arrived here.
- The Isle of Man's government is called Tynwald may be written as Our government is called Tynwald.
