ManxWiki is a fledgling online encyclopedia about the Isle of Man for the people, by the people.

Wikis are information websites that allow any person to register as a user for the purpose of adding pages directly with their knowledge and experience on the specified subject.

Here on ManxWiki.com the subject is simply "The Isle of Man". Any registered user can add any legitimate information about any aspect of local life that they consider to be of value or interest to others.

Ellan Vannin was an Isle of Man Steam Packet Company ship mainly used on the Ramsey to Whitehaven and Liverpool routes.

Originally built as an iron paddle steamer in 1860 in Glasgow named Mona's Isle 2, she was renamed Ellan Vannin in 1883 following a conversion to Twin Screw drives.

At around 7am on the 3rd of December 1909 The Ellan Vannin sank during storms in Liverpool Bay with the loss of all 36 lives on board (21 crew, 15 passengers) and 60 tonnes of cargo.
