The Heritage Trail is an 11 & a half mile route from Douglas railway station to Peel that follows the route of the old railway line. The fist half mile has been extensively built on and you do not join the old line until reaching Quarterbridge.

The railway line was built in 1873 and finally closed in 1972.

The trail passes through (or close by) Union Mills, Crosby & St. John's before arriving in Peel

The trail is universally flat.

Route Map

The route is clearly identified on the IOM Government produced maps titled 'PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY and Outdoor Leisure Map'. They're to the scale of 1:25000 (the same as the UK OS Explorer/Outdoor Leisure maps) and they cover the whole island in two maps (North & South). They're available at most good newsagents/bookshops on the island.

Harvey's do a Superwalker map at 1:30000 scale which is not as readily available on the island as the North/South map.

The UK Ordnance Survey OS 95 map identifies the route but the scale is much less detailed.
